Recording: 'Getting closer' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' (take 1)
One-eyed Jack - afternoon - P: Dude.

A whole afternoon dedicated to the bass. First , I put some basswork on David's 'Wreck of the hesperus'. It's been quiet a challenge, since David is a little bit tuned lower as my guitars usually are, so I had to retune my bass for this number. Also, the tempo is getting faster as the song goes on, so I had to concentrate to match it. Then I added bass to my own 'Getting closer', and I started a new cover from scratch: the famous 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds'.

TUESDAY 24th MARCH 2005

Recording: 'I'll get you' (SI on take 1)

Recording: 'Le Do rit fort'
Recording: 'Iron man' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Le Ré pulsion' (SI on take 1)
One-eyed Jack - afternoon - P: Dude.

I decided to create a suite of 7 strange weird audio pieces, and to put them on YSn. For each one I invented a title with a pun, each one containing the name of a note. I did the complete first piece: two tracks of bass strings scrapped with a pick, one track of acoutic guitar playing variations around a Cmajor chord, and one track of electric guitar laughing out loud. The whole with was then heavily treated, and published as is, having been previously reversed backwards :)
'Iron man' was another instrumental by Maxsilham from Ysn, onto wich I added vocals. I took a blast trying to reproduced the metallic voice of the intro of the song. I think I pulled it out.
Finally, I started to lay down some basics for the 2nd movement of my little mini-series: 'Le Ré pulsion'. This time I used one track of djembé, and one track of finger cymbals.

I did my small vocal contribution to David's backing track for 'Wreck': the ponctuating "But it's alright ...." lines. I also did all the voices for the wonderful cover Maxsilham did of 'White queen'. Then I switched to 'She said she said' which got his first lead vocal part. At night, I did the two guitars for 'She said she said'.

Recording: 'Revolution 1' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Rockestra theme' (take 1)

THURSDAY 17th FEBRUARY 2005

Recording: 'Think for yourself' (SI on take 1)

Recording: 'She said she said' (take 1)
Recording: 'Being for the benefit of Mr Kite' (take 1)
France 3 basement - morning - P: Dude.

Doing the drums for those two tracks I love very much. I also did a strange drum improv in the beginning of the session. I also did an experimental take of "Mr Kite" played on a strange miniature wood piano. Later in the morning, I went to the Nancy record fair, and found my own copy of Revolver, as a British 1966 Ernst J. Day Lp. Wooohoooo ! :)

TUESDAY 8th FEBRUARY 2005

Recording: 'Honey pie' (SI on take 1)

Recording: 'Strawberry fields forever (take 1)' (SI on take 1)

Yeah ! I finally got my chops together and did a whole package of covers for YSn. I did all those on acoustic guitars, and these are only live takes. (I sang while I played). I will add some background vocals on most of those songs, and probably some good guitars on 'Savoy truffle'.

Recording: 'Under my thumb'
Recording: 'Buddha of suburbia'
France 3 basement - 20:00 - 23:00 - P: Dude. Present: Dude, Stef, Boz.

That morning, I started to browse the internet, and I stubbed into an add on the front page of Bjork's website, saying they had this project of a double-cd for charity, which would contain many covers and remixes of 'Army of me'. They were asking for more covers. I immediatly wanted to participate. The thing was that the deadline for that project had been set to JANUARY 17th ! I had to think quick. So I finally decided to do a crazy acoustic guitar and vocal version, hoping that the idea might click. I sent my cover later that day. I think I made a decent job, but my version didn't make it into the final tracklisting of the album. :(

THURSDAY 13th JANUARY 2005

Day Ninety-two for the album
Recording: 'SF' (SI on take 1)

Recording: 'Locked up at home' (SI on take 1)
The Lion's Den - 21:00-11:00 - P: Yann. Present: Dude, Yann.

It was a bit hard, because I had been working all day, and I didn't have time at all to prepare me for that session. But we did a remake of the very last guitar solo for SF, and we also re-did the slide guitar solo in 'Locked up at home'. Apparently, and except for an eventual 'Young and free', it was the very last electric guitar stuff recorded for the album ! Wow !

SUNDAY 9th JANUARY 2005

Home recording + Dude's Power Trio rehearsal 31

Adding all the vocals for that cover of Bowie's classic, the background music being the one we recorded with Yann for the Fakers' album (the 'Steffy Hairdust' version).
Then in the afternoon, it was back to work for the Dp3 band. We started with Chunga, and then did 'Under my thumb', 'Any major dude', 'Birthday/Yer blues', 'Buddha of suburbia', 'Afraid', and then we dig up an old favorite of mine: 'Paranoid android', which came out curiously good (apart from my out of tune guitar). So I put it back in the setlist. Some of this stuff has been recorded on Minidisc. At one point we did a lounge version of 'Bithday', melted with 'You know my name' vocals, and we also did a bit of crazy Mayhem with 'Keep it greasy'.

THURSDAY 30th DECEMBER 2004

Day Ninety-One for the album
Recording:
'The return of the Black Zonga' (SI on take 1)
One-eyed Jack - 14:30-17:00 - P: Yann. Present: Dude, Yann.

First of all, this is the very first recording session that took place in Yann's new place: The Lion's Den. Then it was the one and only session we ever did for the album in year 2004 ! Could you believe that ? In fact, it hasn't been possible before that, because Yann had to work in his house for a very long time. This session went really fine. We did the bass and guitars for the intro of 'The return of the black zonga' (including the little slide guitar line).

WEDNESDAY 29th DECEMBER 2004

Recording: 'If I fell' (take 1)
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude. Present Dude, Val.

Almost a month after the accident, I still haven't got my car back, but I grabbed a guitar for the first time and did my parts for 'If I fell': one take of guitar, and two takes of John's vocal part. Later Val added her great singing to that song.

FRIDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2004

One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude.

Quickly doing this simple version of this great John Lennon song.

WEDNESDAY 1st DECEMBER 2004

Recording: 'Happy xmas (war is over)'
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude.

The day after my car accident, I quickly recorded the basics for this "all-star" cover for YSn. I did one take of acoustic guitar, and I sang the first verse. Later on in the day I couldn't feel my hands and arms and neck anymore and I had to go to the doctor. I finished my part for the song just in time. Later on in the month, I recieved addional stuff to put in the pot: parts by Clive, David, Terry, Angelo mysterioso, Fanfan, Jbkiller, Maxsilham and Yann. The cover was published 2 days before Christmas, and was a great success.

Recording: 'Birthday' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Helter skelter'
One-eyed Jack - morning + afternoon - P: Dude.

Starting by doing all the guitars in 'Glass onion', and the flute. Then I re-did the vocals for 'Not such a bad boy/No values'. I also did all the backing voices for those two, along with the choirs of 'Sgt Pepper'. I then did the three voices overdubs on 'Birthday', by Dude's Power Trio. I then did the opening voice of 'Helter skelter'. Finally, I switched to the acoustic guitar, and did my version of 'Helter skelter'.

TUESDAY 9th NOVEMBER 2004

Recording: 'The end' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'I've got a feeling' (SI on take 1)
One-eyed Jack - morning + afternoon - P: Dude.

An all-vocal session. I started with the softer tunes (in order to warm-up my voice a bit), and then I gradually switched to the harder parts. I did only the lead vocals, except for 'The end' for which I did only the ending choir. I still have a lot to improve for 'I've got a feeling'. 'Why don't' received it's final treatment: the opening percussion stuff (in that case: one track of handclaps, and one track of two plastic goblets hitting the floor) ;)

MONDAY 8th NOVEMBER 2004

Recording: 'The beginning of a new song'
Recording: 'Why don't we do it in the road?' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Comfortably numb' (SI on take 1)

Recording: 'Glass onion'
Recording: 'Why don't we do it in the road?'
Recording: 'Single pigeon'
France 3 basement - 13:00-15:00 - P: Dude.

More drums and drums and drums. :) I also did some piano for 'Why don't' and 'Single pigeon'. I'm not sure of the key for 'Single pigeon'. The piano was finally not used in 'Why don't' because I played it blindly, and it was the wrong tempo, and the wrong key. :)

SUNDAY 31st OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'I've got a feeling' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'And your bird can sing' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'The end' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Rockestra Theme'
France 3 basement - 13:00-14:15 - P: Dude.

I did a big session of drums that sunday. Take 1 of 'I've got a feeling' was bass and electric guitar done by Terry, from Yellow-Sub.net. He also did the basic tracks for 'The end'. 'And your bird can sing' is a collaboration with Maxsilham, also from Ysn. After the drums I also did the piano for the ending of 'The end', and I managed to stick in a strange piano version of Paul McCartney's 'Rockestra Theme'.

MONDAY 25th OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band (reprise)' (SI on take 1)
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude.

I was alone that morning so I took this opportunity to add vocals to my cover of 'Sgt Pepper's Reprise'. I did it rather quickly, although I was suffering from a hard flu.

TUESDAY 21th OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band (reprise)' (SI on take 1)

I did the bass, and then all the guitars for this number.

SUNDAY 17th OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'Baby's request'
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude. Present: Doreen.

My very first recording with the Harley Benton Ukulele ! I wanted initially to record it at the Beatles Day of Mons, but unfortunately, I couldn't be there, so I did it at home instead. I did one take for the Uke, and then one take or the vocals.

TUESDAY 12th OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'The long and winding road' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'And your bird can sing' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'God' (SI on take 1)
One-eyed Jack - morning and afternoon - P: Dude. Present: Doreen.

I did three vocal takes that day. 'The long and winding road', comissioned by and dedicated to Ornella from YSn. 'God', for which I modified the lyrics a bit, and 'And your bird can sing', in which the instruments were done by Maxsilham (just like 'I me mine' was previously done).

THURSDAY 9th OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'Sgt. Pepper's lonely hearts club band (reprise)' (take 1)
France 3 basement - 14:00-14:15 - P: Dude.

I intended to record some drums for the basic tracks of the Pepper reprise, and also on 'She came in through the bathroom window'. I set up the microphone and Minidisc, and proceeded to play a rough take, just to establish the recording level. I was just checking it out when someone entered the room. It seems there was a band rehearsal scheduled, so I had to get out. So the only thing I managed to record that day was this rough take, not even designed to be used ! I guess I'll have to make something out of it anyway. :)

THURSDAY 7th OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'I me mine' (SI on take 1)
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude.

Take 1 of 'I me mine' was done by Maxsilham, from YSn. I proposed to add some vocals, and that's what I did that day. I didn't expect the mixing of the voices and Max's guitars would be so difficult. I spent a lot of time trying to make it sound good.

SUNDAY 3rd OCTOBER 2004

Recording: 'The long and winding road' (take 1)
Recording: 'God' (take 1)
France 3 studios - noon - P: Dude.

I went to the piano and recorded some takes for those two songs, for YSn. 'The long and winding road' was commisioned by Ornella, from YSn.

Live performance in Germany with Mike Keneally and Friends
Recording: '2001' (live with Mike Keneally and Friends !!!)
Waldsee, Freiburg, Germany - evening - P: Dude. Present: Yann, Mike Keneally, Jaan Wessman, Schroeder, Claude Kunhen, and many happy people.

Doing the vocals for 'Sexy sadie', along with the melody guitar at the end.And then immediatly driving with Yann straight to Freiburg, Germany, to attend Mike Keneally's concert. I had the opportunity to sing backing vocals on Mike's wonderful song "2001", during the Mike Keneally and Friends show at the Waldsee. I approached Mike during the afternoon soundcheck and asked if he could participate to this song he likes very much. The incredible MK then said the magic word: "Sure !" After the soundcheck I went back to my happy and fullfilled audient position, only to be called to the stage during the evening show to do it "for real" !

Mike Keneally and Friends is MK on guitar, piano and vocals, the amazing Jaan Wessman on bass, and the astonishing Schroeder on drums. That show also featured the guest performances of Johnny Gomer, on acoustic guitar, and Rainer Lenz, on lead vocals. Apart from any family business like getting married and having children and all that stuff, this was the most beautiful day of my life. (so far ;) ).
You can hear a recording of this live performance href="http://membres.lycos.fr/innerdude/english/Dude/live/mk2004%2Bdude.htm">here

SUNDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2004

Recording: 'A day in the life' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'Comfortably numb'
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude. Present: Doreen, Julian, Domino.

Take 1 of 'A day in the life' was made by David, from Yellow-sub.net. He suggested that we do this cover together, and I liked the idea very much. I modified a bit his version so that the sections after each 'I'd love to turn you on' would be longer', and then I did all the vocals. I also did all the vocals for 'Comfortably numb'..

SUNDAY 5th SEPTEMBER 2004

Recording: 'Sexy Sadie' (take 1)
Recording: 'Four plastic pillars'
France 3 studio - afternoon - P: Dude.

A minidisc recording made at the Steinway piano lying down in the basement studio of the place where I work. I did an instrumental take for 'Sexy Sadie', and another improv. This time I had my Sony stereo microphone, so the sound is quite nice.

THURSDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER 2004

Recording: 'Love you to (take 1)'
One-eyed Jack - morning - P: Dude.

A weird version of the Indian 'Love you to' but for acoustic guitar this time. I used a guitar which I tuned to a C major, I think. I tried hard to play the melodies sitar-like. I also did the voices.

SATURDAY 21st AUGUST 2004

Recording: 'Wah-wah'
Recording: 'Pipes of peace'
Recording: '
Only love remains'
Recording: 'Through our love'
Recording: 'Don't let it bring you down'

One-eyed Jack - night - P: Dude.

Hey hey, more stuff for YSn. Mostly Paul this time.

WEDNESDAY 18th AUGUST 2004

Recording: 'Never without you'

One-eyed Jack - afternoon - P: Dude. Present: Doreen, Julian, Domino.

That afternoon I did this great Ringo Starr tribute for Geroge Harrison. I augmented it with a Harrison medley at the end. That night I did John's 'Nutopian international anthem'. I really can't wait to publish that one ;)

TUESDAY 30th DECEMBER 2003

Dude's Power Trio rehearsal 10
Recording: 'Bruxelles'
Recording: 'Instant Street'
Recording: 'Come together'
Recording: 'Ankle bracelet'
Recording: 'Dancing days'
Recording: 'Be my wife'
Recording: 'Chunga's revenge'
France 3 basement - evening - P: Dude. Present: Dude, Stef, Boz, Flo.

A great rehearsal. We worked out three new song that night: 'Bruxelles', 'Come together' and 'Cracked actor'. The first two came out well, the latter needs more attention (especialy the guitar solo stuff). Apart from that we did 'Chunga' (only half of it was recorded), and 'Paranoid', 'Ankle', 'Wife', and 'Instant Street'. We also fucked up some impromptus versions of 'Acropolis now' and 'SMBH'. And we did a rough 'Dancing days'. Flo was here, and he was helpful as usual. My voice, once it was warm, was in very good shape. The 'Paranoid android' we played at the end came out surprisingly well, we did it from top to bottom without any breaks. Steve used the transcription I gave him for the 2nd half of 'Instant Street', and it sounded better. My aprehension to perform in front of scrutinizing beings (in that case Flo) wasn't a problem that night: I felt more confident. As I said, a great rehearsal.

TUESDAY 3rd DECEMBER 2002

Day Eighty-seven for the album + Session for the Fakers
Recording: 'Steffy Tardust' (SI on take 1)
Recording: 'The return of the Black Zonga' (SI on take 1)
Rusty Wagon - 21:00-23:00 - P: Yann. Present: Dude, Yann.

Rapidly doing the rock'n'roll bassline for 'Steffy Tardust', and then moving on to more work on 'Black Zonga', with the re-doing of the guitars. The first solos in the first measures of the song itself (not the prologue ones), some soloing here and there in the bridges, and finally the clean arpeggios in the ending of the song.

SUNDAY 23rd DECEMBER 2001

Recording: 'Wuthering heights'
Recording: 'Your little chair' (demo)
One-eyed Jack - afternoon - P: Dude.

While I was alone at home (something that doesn't happen much these days), I did a strange version of Kate Bush's great hit with two acoustic guitars (one with nylon strings, the other with metal strings), and two vocal parts (one in the correct original octave, falsetto style, and the other voice two octaves lower). Then I was ready to start laying down the demo for 'Your little chair'. I exported the Reason sequencing I did the previous weeks, and I did some vocals, with overdubs here and there, 3 tracks of handclaps, and some guitar (the loud power chords before the chorus, a stupid little solo for the beginnings, and some funk stuff for the choruses). I did not put any bass because I'm gonna ask Stef to do the basswork on that thing.
